Clifford's Tower is all that remains of York Castle. In 1322 the tower got its name when Roger de Clifford was executed for treason.
The tower stands on top of a tall mound and has stunning panoramic views of the city of York.
Most of the tower on view to visitors dates from the 13th century with some 17th century additions. There is a small admission charge to gain access to the tower, English Heritage members get in for free. * Tickets
